Moët & Chandon is a famous champagne house based in Épernay. It has one of the largest estates in the Champagne region, with 1,150 hectares of rich limestone soil, of which 50% are classified as grand crus and 25% as premier crus. It uses the three main Champagne grape varieties – Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and Chardonnay – to produce its champagnes, which come from the finest vineyards in the region. The house is known for its unique style, with vibrant fruitiness, a tasty palate, and elegant maturity. A full-day tour will include the elements mentioned above, as well as one of the following options:
Option 1. Two family-owned
vineyards From Épernay, you’ll discover the champagnes produced from Pinot Meunier in the Marne Valley, as well as those produced from Pinot Noir. You’ll also visit the region of Côte de Blancs and taste 100% Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs champagnes, which are produced from Chardonnay. This tour will allow you to discover the different grape varieties used to produce exceptional quality champagnes in the Champagne region.
Option 2. Veuve Clicquot and Reims
visit The Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin House is a famous champagne house, founded in 1772 and based in Reims. The Veuve Clicquot Brut Yellow Label champagne is a blend of reserve wines produced from grapes from 50 to 60 different vineyards. Its structure is mainly due to the predominance of Pinot Noir (50-55%), while Chardonnay (28-33%) gives it finesse and elegance. A low percentage of Pinot Meunier (15-20%) completes the blend. This champagne is aged for at least 3 years in the house’s crayères, giving it its silky texture.
Option 3. Dom Ruinart The Ruinart
House is the oldest champagne house still in operation. It was founded in 1729 by Nicolas Ruinart, who was the first to commercialize champagne in bottles. Since its creation, the Ruinart House has distinguished itself by its exceptional quality and constant innovation. It was the first to use transparent glass bottles for its champagnes, allowing consumers to see the wine’s color before buying it. The Ruinart House was also one of the first to use labels on its bottles, which helped to better identify the different crus and differentiate them from each other. Today, the Ruinart House is recognized for its exceptional quality champagnes, which are appreciated worldwide.
