The house

In 1818, Nicolas François Billecart married Elisabeth Salmon, and the couple founded the house in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ. Elisabeth’s brother, Louis Salmon, who had a passion for winemaking, made the wines.

In 1958, Jean Roland-Billecart adopted long, low-temperature fermentations, which the house sees as the source of its wines’ finesse. In the 1970s, he revived rosé, then considered a secondary wine: Brut Rosé has been the house’s signature cuvée ever since.

The estate has a formal French garden, a vat room, aging halls and cellars dug into the chalk; the house sets out the program of the visit in its reply.

The visit

A guided tour of the estate, then a tasting chosen from those the house offers in its reply. The house publishes neither prices nor tour lengths: everything is set in writing after your request.

The house welcomes only a few visitors: it reviews requests that visitors send themselves, explaining why they want to come, gives priority to its loyal customers and does not accept requests more than three months ahead. Children under 12 are not admitted. The visit is paid in advance, through a payment link sent by the house. The house applies its own cancellation terms: the visit is not refunded 15 days or less before the date.

Billecart-Salmon only considers requests made by visitors themselves, through the form on its website or by phone, never those from a chauffeur or an agency. We help you prepare yours: the dates, the number of guests, the language, what draws you to the house. Then we build the day around the slot you get, with other houses in Aÿ and Épernay if the house is slow to reply.

Fixed prices per vehicle, VAT included, with pickup at your hotel in Reims or Épernay. Your chauffeur stays with you from house to house; at Billecart-Salmon, you request the visit yourself, with our advice.

Is the visit guaranteed?

No. The house welcomes only a few visitors and selects among the requests it receives. Send yours as early as you can, up to three months before the date; we keep a backup day ready with other nearby houses.

How much does the visit cost?

The house does not publish its prices: it gives them in its reply, along with the tastings to choose from. The visit is paid in advance to the house.

Can we bring children?

Not if they are under 12, as the house does not admit them. For a family day, we choose other houses.

Is the visit price included?

No. Our price covers the chauffeur and the vehicle. The Billecart-Salmon visit is requested in your name and paid in advance to the house, at its own rate.

Can we see several houses in one day?

Yes, in a full day (€520 (~$580 USD) by sedan): the visit, one or two more houses and a lunch break. A half day (€300 (~$335 USD) by sedan) covers the visit and the drives.

Do you pick up in Paris?

Yes. Our Champagne day trip from Paris picks you up at your Paris hotel and brings you back in the evening, with a 2-hour drive each way.

How do I pay?

By card (secure payment link) or by bank transfer, when you book. We do not accept cash. Invoices can be issued in your company’s name on request.

Which languages do your chauffeurs speak?

Our chauffeurs speak French and English. House tours are usually given in French and English, sometimes in other languages depending on the house.
